GeneralJob Description
Provides interpreting and other support service for deaf and hearing‑impaired students to facilitate communication among hearing‑impaired students and their hearing peers, classroom teachers, and other personnel.
Job Duties- Interacts in a professional manner with students, parents, and teachers
- Provides services to students, parents, and teachers for conferences according to District policies
- Maintains confidentiality of students and student records
- Works cooperatively with school administrators, teachers, support personnel, parents, and community agencies
- Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline
- Provides required information for substitute interpreters
- Models appropriate use of language: oral, written, and signed
- Demonstrates accurate expressive and voice interpreting
- Adheres to RID Code of Ethics as it applies to the educational setting
- Provides tutoring and/or note‑taking services for hearing‑impaired students when necessary and when interpreting is not needed
- Complies with conditions as stated in contract
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Must hold a current Georgia Quality Assurance Screening (G-QAS) rating of Level III or higher in both interpreting and transliterating, as approved and maintained by the Georgia Department of Labor/Vocational Rehabilitation Program (DOL/VRGDL/VRP) and/or documentation of advanced interpreting skills and qualifications through current national certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and/or documentation of advanced interpreting skills and qualifications through current national certification from the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Levels III, IV, or V and/or documentation of advanced interpreting skills and qualifications through a current Educational Interpreters Performance Assessment (EIPA) rating of Level 3.5 or higher;
The EIPA rating cannot be more than 5 years old.
