We are seeking a Senior Material Planner to support production by ensuring the timely availability of materials while maintaining optimal inventory levels. This role is responsible for coordinating supplier deliveries, monitoring inventory flow, and preventing material shortages that could impact production schedules.
The Senior Material Planner will also provide guidance to a small team of planners and support continuous improvement efforts across supply chain operations.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and coordinate material flow to support production schedules
- Monitor supplier deliveries and proactively identify potential shortages
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels, including safety stock
- Review and analyze requisitions to determine material needs, quantities, and delivery timelines
- Recommend and select suppliers from an approved supplier base
- Support onboarding of new suppliers related to material planning processes
- Track and manage supplier performance and address delivery or quality issues
- Coordinate with internal teams (production, quality, procurement, and accounting) to resolve issues
- Maintain accurate data related to lead times, demand, and inventory planning
- Analyze material and capacity availability to provide delivery commitments
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and improved cash flow
- Support implementation of Kanban or supplier-managed inventory programs
- Assist with invoice discrepancies and supplier communications
- Lead or support continuous improvement projects related to supply chain efficiency
- Provide direction and training to team members as needed
- Maintain reporting and tracking of productivity and cost reduction initiatives
- Promote a safe and organized work environment
- Follow safety procedures and maintain compliance with company policies
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Minimum 5 years of experience in material planning, purchasing, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory planning tools
- APICS CPIM or similar certification
- Experience in lean manufacturing environments
- Strong knowledge of material planning and supplier scheduling
- Understanding of inventory management and MRP systems
- Ability to analyze data and solve problems proactively
- Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional teams
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems
- Ability to lead and support a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the facility as needed
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Occasional lifting or movement within a manufacturing environment
