Location: Fort Benning

Manager of Natural Resources

This position is located in Fort Benning, Georgia. The Manager of Natural Resources ning provides day to day management of administrative tasks, including overseeing the Natural Resources staff, and performs various duties providing professional expertise for forestry and wildlife management tasks. This is a one-year limited-term position, with continuation of employment contingent upon the availability of funding.

Responsibilities
  • Provides administrative management and supervises technical support staff supporting the Natural Resources Management Branch at Fort Benning, including recruiting, training, and performance evaluations of staff, approving time and leave, supporting staff, and assisting management staff with budgets.
  • Acts as team lead collecting, recording, and summarizing forest inventory, ecological monitoring, and endangered species (flora and fauna) data.
  • May produce presentation materials associated with the collected data, such as reports or MS PowerPoint presentations and may include information on species status, habitat conditions and changes.
  • Performs prescribed burns and under appropriate supervision and while following Ft. Benning's guidelines and procedures.
  • Selects and marks trees for sale, thinning, or disease control for designated timber stands, helps identify specific trees that are suitable for sale, thinning operations, or targeted disease control.
  • Plants food plots for wildlife and provides nuisance wildlife control.
  • May function as a project manager, providing contract oversight, facilitating project planning, and ensuring projects are completed on-time and within established budgets.
  • May work in duded impact areas with an explosive ordinance escort for endangered species requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Wildlife Management, or a related field and 5 years of experience in natural resource management practices, including forest management, wildlife management and conservation.

Minimum Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Driver's license - upon hire.
  • State commercial pesticide applicators license - within 180 days.
  • Ability to obtain a burning certificate may be required for specific positions - within 180 days.
  • National Wildfire Coordinating Group Incident Qualifications Card (Basic Red Card) - within 180 days.
