Starting Salary: $112,000 - $114,000 (commensurate with educational background/experience)

Position Purpose
The Jones County School System (JCSS) Athletic Director serves as the visionary leader and administrator for 6-12 athletic programming for the JCSS. This position also provides oversight and direction for elementary sites as feeder programs for the district. The JCSS Athletic Director is responsible for data-driven short and long-range planning in support of a continuous improvement model to strengthen athletic offerings and opportunities for all students.

  • Organize and conduct regular meetings with head coaches and other related personnel to ensure knowledge of and compliance with county and state practices, procedures, and regulations.
  • Build systems designed for positive outcomes allowing coaches to focus on coaching, developing students, and building successful programs.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and plan for the athletic budget at the county and school level by leveraging clear, concise, and measurable metrics for data-driven decision making.
  • Advance the district vision and effort toward a first-class game day experience for athletes, the student body, faculty/staff, the community, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide direction, manage, and support short and long-term initiatives for high-quality athletic facilities.
  • Manage athletic schedules, contest contracts, officials, practice schedules, game administrators, security, ticketing, gate operations, event staffing, and visiting-team communication.
  • Maintain a visible presence at practices, competitions, athletic events, and throughout the school day across 6-12 sites.
  • Support a system designed for development and refinement of feeder programs to include an emphasis on grades 5-6 programming.
  • Engage with appropriate professional organizations (e.g., GADA, GHSA, NIAAA) - pursuing certifications available, as applicable.
  • Provide for and encourage opportunities for coaches to participate in clinics, workshops, staff development, and state/regional conferences.
  • Assist school administrators and coaching staff with communication and professional dissemination of information to staff, students, community, media, or other administrators regarding athletics, under the direction of the district Communications Director.
  • Evaluate, interpret, implement, and make recommendations regarding policies and procedures for effective athletic programming.
  • Serve in a coaching/evaluation capacity in the Georgia Leader and Educator Acceleration and Development System (GaLEADS) for teachers, as assigned.
  • Assist with centralized enrollment, eligibility, disciplinary issues, and investigations involving athletics.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) reports for athletics.
  • Maintain records of coaching assignments for equitable supplemental schedules/allocations.
  • Recommend appropriate purchases for equipment and supplies.
  • Facilitate athletic contracting for short and long-range planning as related to branding, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist personnel officials in the recruitment and interviewing of head coaching candidates and related support staff.
  • Coordinate scheduling and administration of events/activities including countywide tournaments/playoffs and officials.
  • Approve/Facilitate all transportation requests for athletic competitions.
  • Attend games and athletic functions as a representative of the Jones County School System.
  • Serve as the district representative at region and state committees, as appointed by appropriate officials.
  • Act as an intermediary between Jones County High School, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), the Middle Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (MGRESA), and the State Department of Education (includes all student eligibility reports, hardship applications, sanctioning of events, administering officials and coaches exams, scheduling of rules clinics, and distribution of GHSA items of interest and other literature).
