The Tax Director is responsible for leading the Firm's tax operations on a strategic level and delivering high-quality tax services that enhance client engagement and maximize the profitability of the tax department. This role provides strategic leadership for the tax department, including oversight of engagements, tax technology, workflows, tax season planning, and staff development. The Tax Director serves as a technical resource and advisor to clients while providing leadership, coaching, and guidance to the tax team.

- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the firm's tax practice.
- Lead strategic planning initiatives and related execution of annual tax season timelines and objectives.
- Lead, schedule, supervise, and review tax engagements and build strong relationships with clients.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to ensure effective cross-functional team dynamics, demonstrate a strategic outlook.
- Provide expert advice on complex tax matters for both individual and business clients.
- Stay updated on the latest updates/changes to tax laws, tax codes, regulations, legislation, and industry trends.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to apply tax planning concepts and assist clients in tax compliance.
- Develop documentation of best practices for the tax department.
- Review complex tax returns and resolve complex tax issues for clients.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, lead client meetings.
- Analyze the time and billing system and improve realization and utilization metrics for tax-related firm goals.
- Develop tax staff, seniors and managers; foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Mentor staff, advise and guide team members on tax related matters.
- Take part in activities to enhance teamwork and collaboration outside of the office environment.
- Contribute to the firm's growth by identifying new service opportunities and expanding existing client engagements.
- Develop new client contacts and relationships and recognize opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients
- CPA Certificate required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Master's Degree in Tax or Accounting preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant tax experience in public accounting, including experience as a Manager/Sr. Manager.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing and developing a team.
- Proficient with Tax software, MS Office, and accounting software.
- Advanced technical expertise in business, individual, trust, nonprofit, and complex tax matters, with a strong understanding of tax laws, regulations, and tax planning strategies.
- Extensive experience preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, exercising sound professional judgment, and resolving sophisticated tax issues.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop, coach, mentor, and lead high-performing tax professionals, including Managers and emerging leaders.
- Strong strategic and business acumen, including the ability to evaluate tax department performance, improve processes and workflows, manage resources, and support profitability and growth.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, communication, and client relationship skills, with the ability to serve as a strategic advisor to clients and collaborate effectively with Firm leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex engagements and priorities, drive strategic initiatives, identify business development opportunities, and contribute to the long‑term growth and success of the Firm.
