Position Summary

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Ingredient Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, cleaning and repairing equipment in the plant facilities, as well as maintaining proper paperwork and documentation.

Position Responsibilities

This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive, and the employee may perform other duties as requested to meet the ongoing needs of American Peanut Ingredients (API).

  • Work with Maintenance Supervisor and QAFS Manager to effectively manage the daily operations.
  • Be responsible to complete all Maintenance, Safety, Food Safety, and General Training courses and documentation.
  • Attend daily shift huddle meetings with team discussing safety, food safety, quality, and production needs and/or misses from previous day.
  • Work with semi-automated systems, conveyors and processing equipment, auxiliary plant equipment such as air compressors, lighting, HVAC/Chiller units, truck docks, doors, and general facility upkeep.
  • Be able to read and interpret drawings/blueprints and work with machine operators on troubleshooting equipment.
  • Be able to effectively use technology to perform duties to include, but not limited to, scanners, computers, lab testing equipment, saws, drill press, and various hand and power tools.
  • Be able to fabricate metal and parts as required/requested.
  • Maintain an organized work environment, including tools and shop, that is clean, safe, and sanitary.
  • Be able to communicate with maintenance and quality with concern to food safety of machine maintenance, and initiate action to prevent and/or record the occurrence of non-conformities related to Food Safety and the quality of the product, processes, quality systems, or safety systems.
  • Attend and successfully complete the Forklift Operator’s Course prior to operating any type of Forklift on API property.
  • Attend daily shift huddle meetings with team discussing safety, food safety, quality, and production needs and or misses from previous day.
  • Willingness to work in shifts (late or early hours, weekends, and overtime, if necessary), and able to be put on call-in schedule.

Sanitation Schedule and Preventive Control Rules

  • Work closely with maintenance personnel to assure that machinery and equipment are in compliance with all sanitary and Safe Food operating conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable Federal, State and local codes, regulations and requirements.
  • Perform skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment to include testing and replace circuits, troubleshoot and correct defective switches, receptacles, and other routine maintenance.
  • Ensure all Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Space, Working at Heights, Hot Work Permits and At-Risk activity policies are strictly followed, and inspect equipment to verify operations are safe to resume.
  • Ensure all required permits, work orders, and required documentation is completely accurate.
  • Execute the preventive maintenance (PM) program, emergency repairs, and make suggestions as needed.
  • Follow API Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines.
  • Follow all API Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Understand and follow API safety policies, work safely and report any safety hazards or unsafe conditions to the Operations Manager, your Immediate Supervisor, or Safety Coordinator.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and an ability to work as part of a team.
  • Successfully complete all required monthly API training modules within the allotted time periods.

Position Requirements

  • Ability to multi-task
  • Lift 50 lbs. several times per shift to shoulder level
  • Communicate effectively, and read, write and comprehend English
  • Have basic computer knowledge and perform basic mathematic equations
  • Ability to be a team player and work alone, self-directed, or with no supervision
  • Climb stairs and ladders and work on elevated platforms
  • Work with processes and procedures conducive to ensure a high level of inventory accuracy
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly and bi-annual Sanitation events
  • Assist other maintenance employees when requested/required
