The Sorter Bin Operator is responsible for managing and operating the lumber sorting system to ensure accurate distribution of materials into designated bins. This role is essential to maintain production efficiency, product quality, and workflow within the sawmill. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperate and monitor the sorter system to ensure lumber is directed into the correct bins
Visually inspect lumber for size, grade, and quality to ensure proper sorting
Communicate with sawmill team to maintain consistent production flow
Clear jams, remove debris, and assist with troubleshooting minor equipment issues
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sorter area
Perform routine checks to ensure equipment is functioning properly
Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations
Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors promptly
QualificationsPrevious experience in a sawmill, manufacturing, or industrial setting is a plus, but not required.
Ability to understand grading standards and sorting processes (training provided)
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods
Willingness to work flexible hours, including shifts and overtime as needed
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Good hand-eye coordination and reaction time
Basic mechanical aptitude
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Dependability and strong work ethic
Industrial sawmill environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving machinery
Requires standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting
Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
