Basic Function

The Quality Technician is responsible for the daily functions of maintaining high standards in the production process. They utilize their skills and knowledge to inspect products or processes, ensuring to meet predefined specifications and institute improvements as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Balance Safety, Quality, Production, Cost and Morale to achieve positive results across departments.
  • Continuously learn, share, and implement corrections or changes to encourage organizational improvements for the department and company.
  • Use the 5s Pillars, Sort (Seiri), Set in Order (Seiton), Shine (Seiso), Standardize (Seiketsu), and sustain (Shitsuke) to maintain a clean and organized workspace to sustain a productive work environment.
  • Maintain the measuring equipment including both calibration and verification of accuracy.
  • Administer Education as needed and document within the department.
  • Maintain Daily Check Sheets and File Paperwork.
  • Administer Final Approval of Incoming Logs.
  • Conduct Billet Etches and provide approval to proceed with the process or notify supervisor when product is out of standard.
  • Conduct the Forge First Part Check when the forge is started and when the die is changed.
  • Measure the flash extension after trim to ensure accuracy.
  • Administer the Tensile Testing process to ensure that the integrity of the part is in good condition.
  • Approve Heat Treat Baskets based on test results from the Tensile Testing process to allow the parts to move to the next phase of production.
  • Conduct CMM Check on the parts after the Dye Pen process is completed.
  • Maintain Scrap Log and Hold Cage.
  • Production Defect Support (Judgement Calls).
  • Perform random production line checks and audits.
  • Input data for chemical composition according to the Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Input data for tensile testing results according to the Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Measure the parts of a prototype trial when it is made.
  • Perform daily inspections of measuring instruments in each process and report any findings that are out of normal specks for operation.
  • Manage NG Parts and OK limit samples on the production line and in the QA lab.
  • Create and revise documents used to set company standards as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, use hands to manipulate, handle and feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must be able to speak and hear and must occasionally lift or move up to 15 pounds.
  • The employee may enter the non-climate-controlled plant or warehouse where temperatures can be extremely hot or cold depending on the weather.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Minimum Qualifications Attributes / Skills
  • Attention to Detail.
  • Prioritize, schedule and review work.
  • Effectively and safely operate a variety of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Kaizen Activity/Continuous Improvement knowledge is a plus.
  • Lean manufacturing experience, preferred.
Education / Work Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent or related work experience.

Knowledge and understanding of the coding abstracting system used in the Medical Records Department for efficient data gathering.

Ability to handle frequent interruptions.

Ability to maintain close attention to detail and accuracy.
