The Materials Planner is responsible for managing customer requirements, production scheduling, material planning, supplier coordination, and inventory control within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position serves as a primary interface between customers, production, suppliers, and logistics partners to ensure customer demand is met while maintaining appropriate inventory levels and production efficiency. The role requires strong experience with SAP/MRP, customer forecasts and call-offs, JIS processing, production scheduling, supplier management, inventory control, and automotive customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:Customer Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers regarding production, scheduling, and delivery requirements.
- Manage and interpret customer forecasts, call-offs, and JIS (Just-in-Sequence) requirements.
- Monitor customer demand and identify significant fluctuations that could impact production, materials, or inventory.
- Ensure adherence to all customer-specific requirements.
- Manage customer portals and required documentation.
- Monitor and manage customer scorecards, addressing performance concerns as necessary.
- Coordinate customer-related engineering changes and communicate requirements internally.
- Develop and maintain production schedules based on manpower, machine capacity, material availability, and customer demand.
- Maintain established target inventory levels while supporting customer delivery requirements.
- Monitor adherence to the production schedule and elevate deviations or capacity concerns.
- Identify and communicate additional overtime requirements when necessary to meet customer demand.
- Incorporate engineering changes and new requirements into production schedules.
- Establish and maintain SAP planning parameters, including lead times, safety stock levels, and other MRP settings.
- Distribute supplier shipment requirements based on SAP-generated demand.
- Monitor component inventory levels and ensure adequate material availability to support production.
- Manage obsolete and excess components.
- Create and maintain accurate Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Follow up on critical components and shortages to minimize production disruptions.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure shipments are completed according to schedule.
- Follow up with carriers to ensure materials are delivered on time.
- Develop and execute recovery plans to address supply shortages, demand changes, and delivery issues.
- Coordinate and monitor expedited freight when required.
- Monitor the receiving of components and investigate discrepancies or delays.
- Issue BCAQs for supplier-related issues and support corrective-action activities.
- Monitor inventory accuracy and investigate discrepancies.
- Develop and implement corrective actions to improve inventory accuracy.
- Support appropriate inventory levels while balancing production requirements, customer demand, and working-capital objectives.
- Comply with all applicable OSHA requirements and Textron health and safety standards.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 14001 environmental management requirements.
- Maintain compliance with IATF 16949 automotive quality management standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in production planning, materials planning, supply chain, or customer service within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of SAP and MRP planning systems.
- Experience with production scheduling and capacity planning.
- Understanding of customer forecasts, call-offs, and JIS/JIT manufacturing requirements.
- Experience managing customer portals and scorecards.
- Knowledge of BOM creation and maintenance.
- Strong inventory management and material-control skills.
- Experience coordinating with suppliers, carriers, production teams, and customers.
- Ability to develop recovery plans and manage expedited shipments in response to material shortages.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Automotive manufacturing experience and familiarity with IATF 16949 preferred.
