Description Put Your Machining Skills to Work at Awnex

Awnex is looking for an experienced, dependable Small Parts Machine Operator to join our fabrication team in Ball Ground, GA.

This is not a push-button machine operator position. We're looking for someone who understands manual machining and is comfortable setting up equipment based on the part being produced.

You'll work with a conventional/manual lathe, drill presses, saws, and other metalworking equipment to produce small components used in our architectural products.

If you enjoy hands‑on work, take pride in producing accurate parts, and know your way around a manual lathe, we'd like to talk with you.

What You'll Do
  • Set up and operate a conventional/manual metal lathe for different parts and production jobs.
  • Determine the appropriate setup, work holding, tooling, speeds, and operating parameters for assigned work.
  • Perform manual lathe operations such as facing, turning, drilling, and other machining operations.
  • Operate drill presses, saws, and other metalworking equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, shop drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and work instructions.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, drill bits, blades, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools to verify finished dimensions.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Make machine and tooling adjustments when necessary to maintain quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Recognize worn or damaged tooling and communicate equipment or tooling needs.
  • Deburr, clean, label, and prepare finished parts for the next stage of production.
  • Maintain accurate identification and separation of parts between jobs.
  • Keep machines, tools, and the work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Follow all required PPE, machine guarding, and safety procedures.
  • Work with other production team members to keep jobs moving through the shop.
Requirements What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who brings more than general manufacturing experience. The right person should have a solid mechanical background and be comfortable working with equipment that requires hands‑on setup and adjustment
.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Previous experience setting up and operating a conventional/manual metal lathe
    .
  • Experience operating drill presses, saws, and other metalworking equipment.
  • Ability to set up equipment for different jobs rather than simply operating a predetermined setup.
  • Ability to read shop or engineering drawings and understand dimensions and tolerances.
  • Experience using calipers and micrometers to inspect finished parts.
  • Understanding of basic machining principles, cutting tools, work holding, speeds, and feeds.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math, including fractions and decimals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing accurate, quality work.
  • Dependable attendance and the ability to work effectively with limited day‑to‑day direction.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
Summary Why Awnex?

At Awnex, the parts you make become part of finished architectural products installed at businesses across the country. We value employees who know their craft, care about quality, work safely, and take ownership of getting the job done right.

If you're an experienced machine operator who enjoys setting up equipment, solving problems, and making quality parts
, we encourage you to apply.
