Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Volunteer Grant Writer to help secure funding that fuels our programs and expands our reach. The Grant Writer will research potential funders, write compelling proposals, and support the full grants cycle—from prospecting to reporting. This remote volunteer role is ideal for someone looking to gain experience, sharpen their writing skills, or use their talents to support a meaningful cause.
Key Responsibilities- Research grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies that align with our mission.
- Write clear, persuasive, and well-structured grant proposals, LOIs, and supporting documents.
- Collaborate with program staff or leadership to gather data, stories, and organizational information.
- Maintain an organized grants calendar, including deadlines, submission dates, and reporting requirements.
- Assist with preparing progress updates, impact reports, and compliance documentation.
- Support the development of templates and standard organizational language for future submissions.
- Track submitted proposals and maintain accurate grant records.
- Strong writing, editing, and research skills.
- Ability to synthesize information and communicate clearly.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and dependable.
- Self-starter capable of working independently in a remote environment.
- Passion for the mission of The Donovan’s Venom or the fine arts.
- Prior grant writing experience is helpful but not required—we welcome motivated learners.
- Possession of strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Over 2 years’ experience with various grants, including federal, state, private foundations, and corporate sources.
- Experience with financial management and budget preparation for grants.
- Knowledge of grant regulations, compliance issues, and reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of online grant application systems and tools, including emerging technologies and platforms.
- Certification in grant management or grant writing (e.g., CGMS, GPC) is a plus.
- Hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant development, and the full grants cycle.
- Real-world writing samples to build your professional portfolio.
- A formal letter of recommendation based on your contributions.
- Networking opportunities with nonprofit leaders, board members, and community partners.
- Mentorship and collaboration with a supportive nonprofit leadership team.
- Professional references to support your career growth.
- The satisfaction of using your skills to create meaningful and lasting impact.
- Approximately 5-10 hours per week, with flexibility based on your schedule.
- A minimum commitment of 6 months is preferred to support continuity in grant cycles.
