Senior Pastor First Baptist Church of Blackshear

I. Qualifications

• Possess the Scriptural qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:7–9
• Be a biological man called by God to vocational Gospel ministry
• Be ordained by a Southern Baptist church
• Be theologically aligned with and affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000
• Hold a minimum of a master’s level or comparable seminary (Southern Baptist preferred) degree
• 5+ years of senior pastor or executive pastor experience preferred
• 5+ years leading a multi‑staff (4+) church in a congregation averaging 200+ in worship preferred

Led by the Spirit of God and called to shepherd the congregation of First Baptist Church Blackshear, the Pastor agrees to fulfill the following responsibilities.

• Lead the church in advancement of its stated purpose and mission
• Shepherd and minister to the spiritual needs of church members and provide spiritual guidance to the congregation and community
• Preach the Word of God at worship services, or be responsible for securing other qualified ordained ministers to fill the pulpit on appropriate occasions
• Oversee and administer the ordinances of the New Testament (baptism and the Lord’s Supper), perform marriages, and conduct funerals
• Evangelize the lost through preaching and personally as a disciple‑maker of Jesus Christ
• Lead the church in planning and implementing ministries that fulfill the Great Commission
• Visionary leadership
• Expository Preaching
• Disciple‑making focused
• Equip the membership for ministry
• Lead ministry leaders and staff to advance to their next step/level

• Act as chief administrator and chairman of the church staff, providing general supervision of all church activities and coordinating staff to ensure a balanced and effective church program
• Lead church staff, delegate responsibilities to staff members and church officers, and counsel ministry teams about their work
• Serve as an ex officio member of all organizations and committees of the Church
• Serve as moderator during all church business meetings
• Mediate conflict to produce healthy, productive relationships in the church

• Care for people with special needs and lead others to be involved in caring ministries
• Respect church members’ ministry gifts and encourage members’ growth and involvement in the life of the church
• Be diligent in work according to a schedule shared with and approved by the Deacon Body
• Seek the mind of Christ and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all things
• Be a person of integrity in his family, the church, and the community

• Attend, when possible, the State and National Southern Baptist Convention meetings and similar meetings, or appoint a proxy to do so
• Serve as (or designate) the church’s representative to the Piedmont‑Okefenokee Baptist Association
• Represent the church in community and denominational activities

In accordance with Article II‑A, Section II of the Bylaws, oversight of the Pastor is the responsibility of the Deacon Body. Specifically:

• The Pastor and Deacons shall be responsible to the Church, working cooperatively in their service
• Purposely pursue demonstrating a Godly example through actions and words, sharing accountability with the Deacon Body and the Church
