Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice, analytical and critical thinking, ensuring individualized care and coordinating care through effective partnerships.
- Provide relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics, adapting service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
- Always partner with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching) and keep the patient and significant others updated, making the patient’s goals the focus of the plan of care.
- Practice using current clinical practice standards.
- Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinate delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, using diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods (interdisciplinary rounds, case review, etc), completing timely documentation and promoting a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
- Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and promoting the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
- Participate and support performance improvement, including research and research utilization, to promote safe, quality patient care; initiate or lead such activities, promote an inter/intra‑disciplinary process, and actively support and participate in shared governance at all levels.
- Professional Development and Initiative
- Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
- Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for all disciplines) to ensure a current and future qualified workforce, modeling the professional practice of nursing and creating a healthy work environment.
- Evidence Based Practice and Research
- Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing; participate in activities such as value analysis as part of the decision‑making process in evaluating patient care products.
- Uphold all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies, including legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards ensuring examples such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar Health Systems safety absolutes.
- Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence‑based practice, consult appropriate experts, and use appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions.
- Resources and Support
- Proactively plan for the care of patients across the care continuum in the course of giving direct patient care.
- Participate in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self‑initiation in collaboration with care managers and other members of the health care team to achieve best practice outcomes (decrease in re‑admission rates; avoidable days; adverse events, etc).
- Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
- Required Minimum Education:
Associates Nursing or Diploma (Nurse) or Bachelor of Nursing (Preferred). - Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. RN – Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT (Multi‑state Compact); BLS, ARC‑BLS, BLS‑I. - Required
Minimum Experience:
Completion of accredited/approved school of nursing with required clinical hours and 5 years of direct patient care experience.
