Job Responsibilities

Assess client health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, maintain medical records, and administer nursing care to Health Department clients. May advise clients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Provide Public Health services on a daily basis. Care for populations with special needs during disasters/emergencies and under biological and chemical protocols.

  • Provides comprehensive assessment of client’s health care needs
  • Provides treatments, administers medications/vaccines, and preventative/maintenance care to clients and families
  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care plans
  • Maintains accurate, detailed reports and client records
  • Modifies client treatment plans as indicated by client responses and conditions
  • Monitors all aspects of client care, including diet and physical activity
  • Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in client conditions
  • Prepares clients for, and assists with, examinations and treatments
  • Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensures that stock of supplies is maintained
  • Provides education to clients, families, and community service providers
  • Provides health care, first aid, and immunizations
  • Provides school related health care services
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university and current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
  • CPR certification
  • OR Associate’s degree/diploma in Nursing from an accredited college, one year of PHN experience, completion of a PHN course within one year of hire, current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license, and CPR certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN
  • Previous public health experience strongly preferred
  • Applicants with ASN degree required to complete approved School of Nursing BSN Level Health Assessment Course if not previously completed
