Overview

The RN Oncology Infusion Therapy Clinician functions under the direction of the Manager Infusion Therapy or other designated leader. The RN demonstrates knowledge, competency, and clinical expertise in oncology infusion therapy including but not limited to hazardous drug therapies for treating malignant and nonmalignant conditions. The RN will regularly administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, antineoplastics agents, hazardous drugs, and targeted therapies. The RN works in an outpatient infusion center with opportunities for alternate settings.

The RN provides safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of age‑appropriate and culturally aware needs. The RN addresses the patient/family’s biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs and is responsible for delivery of patient care in complex situations. The RN serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff, operational leadership, and medical staff. The RN upholds licensing, scope of practice, and code of ethics standards.

The RN attends staff meetings, in‑services, special projects, and continued education. The RN can serve as a preceptor for newly hired RN colleagues. Local travel required. Floating between Cobb Hospital HOD's based on need. All sites within 35 miles of Cobb Hospital.

Shift & Location

Day shift (United States of America). Outpatient full‑time days on Cobb Hospital campus. Supports the NGOC Austell clinic and providers.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse licensed in Georgia.
  • Oncology experience required.
  • Knowledge of hazardous drug handling and compliance with relevant regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

    A. Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice with analytical/critical thinking to provide individualized care.

    B. Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics, adapting service delivery to cultural diversity.

    C. Partners with patients and significant others using appropriate patient teaching methods, keeping them updated and focusing on patient goals.

    D. Practices using current clinical standards for chemotherapy and targeted therapies for malignant and nonmalignant conditions.

    E. Meets annual requirements for chemotherapy competence (60%).

  • Teamwork and Collaboration

    A. Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting professional care delivery, inclusive communication, and timely documentation.

    B. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility, fosters recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.

    C. Participates in performance improvement and shared governance, supporting research utilization and interdisciplinary processes (20%).

  • Professional Development and Initiative

    A. Completes initial and ongoing competency assessments and mandatory education.

    B. Serves as preceptor and/or mentor for professional nurses and staff or students across disciplines.

    C. Engages in continuing education and obtains oncology specialty certification or 12 continuing education credits annually (10%).

  • Evidence-Based Practice and Research

    A. Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participates in activities such as value analysis.

    B. Upholds healthcare system policies, procedures, clinical competencies, and standards including legal and regulatory requirements.

    C. Participates in data collection, poses clinical questions, consults experts, and applies evidence to practice (5%).

  • Resources and Support

    A. Plans care across the continuum while providing direct patient care.

    B. Collaborates to develop protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes.

    C. Supports efficient use of human and material resources (5%).
