Job Summary

Directs patient care by supervising staff nurses/PCA/and Unit secretaries when monitoring patients, administering medications, consulting with health care providers, updating patient records, and educating patients and their patient’s families on disease and post‑hospital treatment. Provides general shift supervision and coordinates daily administrative duties, including schedules, nursing assignments, and patient care.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

Manages the patient admission process to include assessments and plan of care development. Ensures the weekly plan of care is updated and RN participates in team conferences. Makes shift assignments, manages call‑outs by ensuring staff is appropriate for the next shift. Communicates with staff and makes decisions as needed for the shift to operate smoothly. Communicates issues through the AOD, SOS event systems, and DON.

Monitors and directs patient care through observation and assessments. Responds to rapid response requests by assessing patients and communicating with the physician. Ensures patient needs are met. Creates and maintains high performance through positive leadership, supports staff needs, and communicates efficiently.

Provides nursing care in cooperation with physicians utilizing nursing standards of practice and policy. Ensures all staff is aware of policy and procedures. Documents timely and accurately in EMR. Ensures staff documents appropriately in EMR and uses bar scanning for medications.

Communicates with other personnel to improve patient care with open and honest communication skills.

Maintains knowledge of current trends. Meets competency expectations for the hospital. Assists other staff with competency checks and teaches staff as needed for compliance.

Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required

Minimum Education
  • Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing as an associate degree/diploma nurse (required)
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing (preferred)
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC‑ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS‑I – ACLS Instructor or ACLS‑P – ACLS‑Provisional (180 days) within 180 days
  • BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support Instructor
  • RN – Registered Nurse (single state) or RN‑COMPACT – RN – Multi‑state Compact
Required Minimum Experience
  • Minimum two years of team leading and patient care (required)

  • Ability to read, write and speak English; optimize the use of technology to support clinical care and hold basic computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and decision‑making skills.
  • Works well with others in a collaborative, team‑focused, patient‑centered way.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in written form with all levels of internal and external resources.
  • Analytical skills necessary to solve technical, clinical and managerial challenges.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Sufficient clinical and leadership experience to ensure competence and credibility to lead others.
