American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Dept RN for a fast-paced, high-acuity ER requiring GA or compact licensure and proficiency with EPIC.
Details- Acute care setting in a busy Emergency Department averaging 70-80 patients per day
- 24-bed unit including 4 behavioral health rooms and 2 critical care rooms
- 9-chair vertical flow fast track area and separate triage area, travelers required to perform triage
- Separate behavioral health/seclusion rooms with dedicated sitter pool, 24/7 in-house security
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1
- Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, and uncontrolled diabetes across ages 20-90
- STEMI and stroke receiving facility with transfers out for intervention, no trauma designation
- RNs administer common drips including levophed, epinephrine, fentanyl, and propofol
- RNs perform their own blood draws and read their own telemetry strips (GE monitors)
- RT staffed 24/7 handling ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs; RNs troubleshoot equipment only
- Rad tech transports patients to X-ray/CT except stroke alerts or critical care requiring 1:1 RN
- 1 ED physician on-site at all times with 2-3 additional midlevels during peak hours
- 24/7 charge nurse coverage, occasionally taking behavioral health patients
- 1 PCT staffed per shift assisting with transport and phlebotomy
- EPIC EMR used
- 12-hour day shifts, 7a-7p, with every other weekend
- Floating required between 3 Memorial campuses within 20-25 miles of each other, including two in TN
- No call or standby requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of experience required
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), ENPC or PALS, NIHSS
- Must be adept with EPIC charting system
- Experience in a fast-paced ER with fewer resources than large teaching or trauma facilities preferred
- Not suitable for new ED nurses; must be self-sufficient in caring for high-acuity patients
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Provide direct patient care in a Level 1 receiving facility with a children's hospital 20 minutes away
- No OB services on-site, so occasional precipitous deliveries may occur
- Rarely boards patients but frequently transfers high-acuity cases due to criticality
- Scrub color is navy blue; plain or facility-branded sweatshirts allowed, no hoodies
- Orientation includes two 8-hour hospital orientation shifts and two 12-hour clinical orientation shifts with a preceptor during the first week
- Holiday coverage expected unless otherwise negotiated in contract
- Candidates may not have been directly employed by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility within the past year
