Overview
We are currently seeking a full-time Ground Person to join our growing team in Atlanta. This is a non-union position reporting to the Vegetation Management Foreman.
Responsibilities- Use a chainsaw to cut brush, logs and stumps of larger trees.
- Gather brush and feed brush into wood chipper.
- Apply chemical herbicide to right‑of‑way following brush removal.
- Utilize hose and spray nozzle from truck‑mounted spray equipment, or backpack for remote areas.
- Service truck, chipper, and equipment, maintaining them in neat, clean, and specified mechanical order.
- Assist senior spray person in mixing herbicide in holding tank.
- Must have or be willing to develop experience in vegetation management or as a grounds person.
- Must be able to operate, service, and maintain all required tools and equipment.
- Must have the ability to concentrate and maintain attention for extended periods.
- Must consistently wear necessary PPE.
- Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
- Must withstand exposure to various weather conditions (rain, heat, sun, cold) while maintaining safety.
- Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Work standard 8 or 10‑hour day Monday–Thursday; additional hours as needed.
- Support call‑out work with overtime during emergencies (holidays, weekends, long hours).
- Must hold a valid driver’s license, pass a background check, and obtain a DOT medical card within two weeks of start date.
- Must have adequate eyesight for judging distances and coordinating equipment.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the work site.
- Must be able to work around hazardous equipment.
- Must tolerate excessive noise from machinery while using hearing protection.
- Must work in various temperatures and weather conditions, including harsh vegetation.
- Occasional work on uneven ground acceptable.
- With proper PPE, work around falling limbs acceptable.
