LOHS is hiring for a Shelter Veterinary Technician.

Lake Oconee Humane Society (LOHS) is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Veterinary Technician to support the daily medical care of shelter animals and assist with high-quality veterinary services. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys hands-on animal care, and wants to make a direct impact in animal welfare every day.

Reporting to the Director of Shelter Medicine , the Veterinary Technician is responsible for the daily care of all surgical patients, assisting doctors with pre-, peri- and post-operative care of patients, general cleaning, and training others to utilize patient care protocols , inventorying, ordering, and restocking medical supplies and medications .

What You'll Do:
  • Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgeries, and medical procedures
  • Prepare treatment areas, surgical instruments, and medical supplies
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
  • Monitor animals before, during, and after procedures to ensure their safety and comfort
  • Collect and process laboratory samples and maintain accurate medical records
  • Educate adopters and clients on medications, recovery instructions, and ongoing care
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary treatment and kennel areas
    Assist with patient intake, restraint, handling, and daily monitoring of shelter animals
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to support efficient shelter operations
  • Help create a positive, compassionate experience for both animals and people
What We're Looking For:
  • Graduate of an approved veterinary medical technology program (RVT preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of animal handling, restraint, and basic veterinary procedures
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced shelter environment while staying organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with veterinarians, staff, volunteers, and adopters
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities throughout the day
  • Compassionate, dependable, and committed to animal welfare
  • Must be able to lift and handle animals safely and perform physical tasks associated with shelter work
