Northern Bobwhite Field Technician - TX

Position Summary
We are seeking 2 technicians to assist with Northern Bobwhite research on public and private lands in Texas. Typical duties involve but are not limited to: capturing and handling wild bobwhite, daily animal husbandry of captive bobwhites, radio‑telemetry, clearing and baiting trap sites, building walk‑in funnel cage traps, data entry, equipment maintenance, and other various duties. The selected individuals will interact with the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife staff, and private property managers/owners.

Employees will be working with minimal supervision and should be comfortable working independently during daytime and nighttime hours, in adverse weather conditions, and where venomous snakes are found. Previous experience with bird handling and radio‑telemetry is desired. Hiking ~5–10 miles per day, lift 50 lbs, and comfortable working in tight quarters for several hours at a time.

Responsibilities
  • Trapping and maintaining quail traps (30% of time)
  • Tracking quail (30%)
  • Vegetation and acoustic surveys (10%)
  • Data entry (10%)
  • Equipment maintenance (10%)
  • Driving between sites (10%)
Qualifications

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification

  • Associate degree or higher in wildlife management or closely related field.
  • A degree in wildlife science or related field.
  • Interest in habitat and gamebird management/ecology.
  • Good work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Experience pulling trailers.
  • Experience with safe operation and maintenance of UTVs.
  • Experience working with gamebirds.
  • Experience with radio‑telemetry and field research.
Physical Demands

Driving, hiking ~5–10 miles per day, lifting 50 lbs, comfortable working in tight quarters for several hours at a time.
