Responsibilities- Provide technical safety, health, and environmental compliance support to Mill personnel.
- Prepare written safety and health programs and policies.
- Identify Mill safety training needs and develop and coordinate safety training programs.
- Participate in process reviews such as hazard analyses, operator training, ZES/lockout, and new hire orientation.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and support of Mill policies.
- Identify opportunities and support implementation of engineering controls to minimize or eliminate safety, health, and environmental hazards.
- Evaluate safety systems, critique, follow up, and ensure changes to equipment or processes are reflected in safety systems to keep them current and thorough.
- Support plant leadership—supervisors and superintendents—through feedback for documentation improvement, closing the loop with employees, and serving as a training resource.
- Confirm that systems and policies are in place, adhered to, and functioning properly through records review and physical observation on the ground.
- Conduct general EHS observations, including guarding audits, at‑risk observations focusing on lockout, safe work practices, employee hazard recognition, basic electrical safety inspections, and audits of existing safety inspections such as monthly or quarterly ladder and tool checks.
- Manage safety and environmental recordkeeping and reporting, both regulated (state and federal) and internal, continually evolving and improving internal reporting to best support the Mill’s needs.
- Build, develop, and continually improve Mill safety systems.
- Lead by example and with integrity, holding self and all employees accountable for working safely, ensuring consistency in actions and results, and driving for improved outcomes.
- Solicit input from all personnel for continual improvement of mill results.
- Educate personnel to help them grow in their roles, understand the part they play in the business, and increase general knowledge.
- Execute on and uphold company policies and ensure consistency in their application.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and at least five years of experience, preferably in a wood products manufacturing environment.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in industrial safety and compliance, environmental compliance, or a related field is desired; an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience will also be considered.
- Familiarity with federal recordkeeping and reporting requirements, such as OSHA and EPA.
- Familiarity with state of Georgia recordkeeping and reporting requirements, including workers compensation, EPD, and DNR.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop people.
- Competence with computer and typical office software such as Word and Excel.

This position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and uneven surfaces, carrying, lifting (over 50 pounds, and in some cases over shoulder height), bending, climbing, working at heights, and operating in tight or confined spaces. The role also involves exposure to a manufacturing environment necessitating personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, and appropriate arc‑flash and arch‑blast PPE for electrical work.
The primary environment includes temperature extremes, wood dust, sharp objects, electricity, chemicals, lubricants, and high noise levels.
Typical office equipment such as computer and telephone; familiarity with recordkeeping methods and systems for maintaining top‑tier compliance in environmental, health, and safety.
