Overview
Title: Quality Control Technician (7p-7a)
Location: Ochlocknee, Georgia
Department: Quality Control
Reports To: Quality Control Supervisor
Job SummaryThe Quality Control Technician supports ODCA's strategic mission, vision, and WE CARE values by applying quality initiatives aligned with ODCA’s business goals, supporting teammates in processing, packaging, and product development, and applying inspection and test methods to determine product conformance. The role uses quality control principles to optimize manufacturing operations and ensure products meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities- Performs specific analytical tests, such as particle size distribution, acid assay, titrations, pH, and wavelength scans on products and raw materials to measure conformance to specifications.
- Interprets test results, evaluates processes, and communicates with processing, warehouse, and packaging teammates to ensure adjustments are made to keep products conforming to specifications; places non-conforming finished goods on hold.
- Communicates and works with production leadership to investigate and resolve problems.
- Prepares and manages correspondence, reports, and documents in a legible and comprehensible manner.
- Maintains equipment, ensuring it is functional and properly calibrated. Enters work requests as needed. Records calibration results as required by QMS.
- Assists and supports QC Analytical Lab Technicians where needed.
- Supports ISO, FAMI-QS, HACCP, and other related requirements as applicable to the plant.
- Interacts with the document control system as needed.
- Observes all safety rules, regulations, and precautions.
- Audits external processes and/or verifies internal processes for conformance to current SOPs, PWIs, etc.
- Keeps areas clean and free of clutter.
- Participates in improvement activities (e.g., 8D, kaizen, visual at a glance, 5S, shift review, daily review processes, process mapping).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education:
- High school diploma, or post-secondary education
- Licensure/Certification:
- Must obtain the CQIA certification (Quality Improvement Associate Certificate through the ASQ) within six months of hire.
- Work Experience:
- Must possess two years of experience working in quality control
- Must understand process controls and SPC rules
- Must be able to read, comprehend, and act on product specifications, SOPs (standard operating procedures), PWIs (Process Work Instructions), AIQ processes, and similar documents
- Training:
- Must meet the assessment requirements for this position.
- Must pass basic computer literacy skills assessment.
- Must obtain the CQIA certification (as above) within six months of hire.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication tailored to the audience.
- Ability to work with others to ensure quality outcomes for customers and ODCA.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Understand all safety requirements and other communications.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, reach, twist, stoop, walk, and climb stairs.
- Ability to work in dusty, hot, cold, and humid environments.
- Ability to communicate by radio and phone.
- Ability to stand for the duration of the shift when necessary.
- Ability to work shifts and participate in cleanup activities up to full shift duration.
- Must meet all physical requirements of the position.
