The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily quality assurance and food safety activities within a poultry processing facility. This position ensures compliance with USDA-FSIS regulations, HACCP requirements, SSOPs, customer specifications, and company quality standards. The QA Supervisor leads QA technicians, monitors production processes, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and helps maintain the highest standards of product safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance- Ensure compliance with USDA-FSIS regulations, HACCP plans, SSOPs, GMPs, and company food safety standards.
- Monitor and verify critical control points (CCPs) throughout processing operations.
- Conduct daily audits of production, sanitation, and quality systems.
- Investigate and document food safety and quality incidents, implementing corrective actions as required.
- Support USDA inspections and address regulatory concerns promptly and professionally.
- Maintain readiness for customer, third-party, and regulatory audits.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of QA Technicians and Quality Inspectors.
- Verify product specifications, weights, labeling, packaging, and product appearance.
- Review quality data and identify trends requiring corrective or preventive action.
- Monitor microbiological and product testing programs.
- Ensure compliance with customer-specific quality requirements.
- Assist with product holds, releases, and disposition decisions.
- Train, coach, and develop QA team members on food safety and quality standards.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Promote a strong food safety and quality culture throughout the facility.
- Partner with Production, Maintenance, Sanitation, and Human Resources departments to achieve operational goals.
- Analyze quality metrics and implement improvement initiatives.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective action programs.
- Develop and maintain quality documentation, procedures, and records.
- Participate in customer complaint investigations and resolution activities.
- Drive initiatives to reduce defects, customer complaints, and product non-conformances.
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Poultry Science, Biology, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience may be considered.
- 3-5 years of quality assurance, food safety, or regulatory compliance experience in food manufacturing.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Poultry processing, meat processing, or USDA-inspected manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of HACCP
- Strong understanding of USDA-FSIS regulations
- Strong understanding of SSOPs
- Strong understanding of GMPs
- Strong understanding of Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
- Strong understanding of SQF, BRC, or other GFSI standards
- Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into operational practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and quality management systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
