Research Analyst

Job Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of chemical tests and has knowledge of instrumental techniques.
• Determine the physical and chemical properties of compounds using quantitative and qualitative tests.
• Conduct bench‑top formulation work and small cylinder treatments.
• Operate pilot‑plant treating facility including small‑scale, pilot‑plant scale and large‑scale treatments.
• Assist research scientist in the development of novel wood‑protecting formulations, such as wood preservative systems, pigment systems, fire‑retardant formulations and water‑repellent formulations.
• Assist research scientist in evaluating the properties of treated wood.
• Assist research scientist in sample preparation including wood‑cutting, small wooden structure construction.
• Assist research scientist in the development of application processes for protecting wood.
• Conduct bench‑scale formulation studies and perform property testing.
• Evaluate the properties of experimental products using established procedures.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Maintain neat, orderly and clear records of work completed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree OR Associate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, technology, environmental science, or related field + 3 years’ experience.
• 2 years of general industrial experience preferred.
• Familiarity and confidence in preparing bench‑top formulations and operating the lab/pilot equipment.
• Flexibility to adapt to varying situations to attain goals and meet deadlines.
• Computer literate (spreadsheets, word processing) – ability to use spreadsheets to evaluate, represent and communicate technical data.
• Must maintain a good attendance record.
• Must be willing to work as a team player.
