Position Purpose
Specialty Assistant Store Manager in Training (SASM-IT) will gain hands‑on experience in the key responsibilities and functions of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager at The Home Depot. The SASM‑IT will undergo a comprehensive training program that includes mentorship, leadership development, and hands‑on experience. During the training, SASM‑ITs will become familiar with Manager on Duty responsibilities and gain insight into overseeing the Specialty and Pro Departments.
They will learn to develop and implement strategies that boost sales, enhance customer service, and drive profitability across Specialty, Pro, and Services businesses. SASM‑ITs are expected to lead by example and uphold, maintain, and support all lawful company policies and positions.
- 50% Training and Preparing for Assistant Manager Position:
Participate in a structured training program covering all aspects of retail store management, including operations, customer service, sales & profitability, and company policies and procedures. Learn and demonstrate tactics to support key accountabilities such as staffing and scheduling, identifying and resolving stock deficiencies, supervising associates in selling behaviors, and resolving customer issues. Support service needs for installed sales/special orders and product sales, demonstrate performance management processes, and complete all assigned training modules and assessments. - 15% Customer
Experience:
Supervise associates in the selling effort, lead a customer‑service culture, and set the example. Drive customer service and associate engagement throughout the store; ensure customer concerns are solved effectively and take necessary actions to resolve situations promptly. - 15% Sales and Productivity:
Work with key partners to plan merchandise placement, signing, and support stock integrity through inventory management. Learn how to maintain and operate all store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations. - 10% Operations Management:
Perform opening, closing, MOD, and other whole‑store focus responsibilities. Adhere to all company policies and procedures, hold associates accountable, command store standard operating procedures (SOPs), especially those involving safety compliance, and mitigate shrink. - 10% Safety:
Ensure self and associates follow all safety and hazmat procedures and Safety Matters guidelines at all times.

- Must continuously stand or walk and regularly lift, handle, or carry material or equipment of moderate weight (8–20 pounds)
- Located in a comfortable indoor area; unpleasant conditions are infrequent and not objectionable
- Must be at least eighteen years of age or older
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States

- Completion of a high school diploma and/or GED
- Completion of a bachelor's degree program or an equivalent degree in a field related to the job
