The Chief of Security is a full-time, on-site role based in Milan, NM, responsible for overseeing all security operations within the facility. This role manages security staff, develops and enforces security policies and procedures, and ensures compliance with contractual, regulatory, and organizational standards. Daily responsibilities include supervising shift operations, monitoring facility access and perimeter security, reviewing incident reports, and coordinating responses to security events or emergencies.
The Chief of Security collaborates with facility leadership, government partners, and external agencies to maintain a safe, secure, and humane environment for staff, visitors, and individuals in custody. The role also involves conducting security audits, leading training on security and emergency protocols, and recommending improvements in technology, processes, and staffing to mitigate risk and enhance operational effectiveness.
- Strong physical security expertise, including perimeter control, access management, surveillance systems, and incident response in a corrections, detention, law enforcement, military, or similar high-security environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in information security, network security, and cybersecurity principles to coordinate with IT teams on secure systems, incident reporting, and protection of sensitive data.
- Experience with business continuity and emergency preparedness planning, including risk assessments, contingency plans, and coordination of drills and exercises.
- Proven leadership skills in managing multidisciplinary security teams, with the ability to coach, mentor, and hold staff accountable to policies and performance standards.
- Excellent judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, especially under pressure or during emergency situations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting, documentation, and collaboration with internal leadership and external partners.
- Familiarity with corrections or detention regulations, standards, and best practices; prior experience in a correctional or detention setting is highly beneficial.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field is preferred.
