Position: Georgia POST-Certified Court Security Officer (Part-Time)

Position Summary

This is a part-time, Georgia POST-certified sworn law enforcement position assigned exclusively to court security at the City of South Fulton Municipal Court. The officer is responsible for the safety and order of the courthouse and its proceedings — including courtrooms, judges, court staff, jurors, witnesses, attorneys, defendants, and the public — during all hours the court is in operation. This is not a patrol assignment.

Duties are confined to the court facility and matters of court security. This position is not eligible for benefits. The rate of pay for certified, part-time Police Officers is $29.05 per hour. (maximum of 56 hours per biweekly pay period and minimum of 12 hours per week) . Applicants must be available to work Monday – Friday between 7 am and 6 pm.

  • Staff the public entrance screening point; operate walk-through metal detectors, X-ray equipment, and hand-held wands; conduct bag and person searches; and control prohibited items entering the facility.
  • Screen and control the access of the public, attorneys, defendants, jurors, and visitors entering the courthouse.
  • Maintain order and security inside courtrooms during all proceedings and enforce the presiding judge’s orders and courtroom decorum.
  • Protect judges, court staff, jurors, witnesses, attorneys, and the public from threats, disturbances, or acts of violence.
  • Escort and supervise in-custody defendants moving between holding areas, courtrooms, and transport; maintain custody and accountability of detainees while inside the facility.
  • Secure and monitor courtroom holding areas and coordinate prisoner handling with transporting and detention agencies.
  • Respond to disturbances, medical emergencies, threats, and security breaches inside the courthouse, and remove or detain disruptive individuals as directed.
  • Conduct opening and closing security sweeps of courtrooms and the building and verify the facility is secure before and after court sessions.
  • Manage and document seized, surrendered, or prohibited property at the screening point in accordance with department procedure.
  • Provide heightened or protective coverage for high-profile, high-conflict, or threat-assessed proceedings.
  • Maintain a visible, professional security presence in lobbies, hallways, and waiting areas during court operations.
  • Coordinate court security matters with court administration, the bench, the clerk’s office, and outside agencies (sheriff, marshals, transporting agencies).
  • Prepare incident reports for disturbances, arrests, use of force, or security events occurring at the courthouse, and provide testimony as required.
  • Enforce courthouse rules governing weapons, contraband, recording, and conduct.
