DEFINITIONUnder direct supervision, assists Utilities personnel in performing general service work in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems. May be assigned to maintenance or operational tasks at the wastewater plant site.
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATIONThe Utilities Laborer will assist with operating utility trucks, air compressors, tractors, tractor loaders, rodders, jetters, and other power-driven equipment and tools. This position is required to drive to every facility which is operated and maintained by the Utilities Department and have the mobility and agility to move about each site as the work demands dictate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB- Assists Utilities personnel in performing work related to operating and maintaining a water or wastewater system and equipment.
- Will assist with the operation of utility trucks, air compressors, tractors, tractor loaders, rodders, jetters, and other power-driven equipment and tools.
- Assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of facility equipment.
- Paints and assists with repairs and service of equipment and facilities.
- Attend during regularly scheduled work hours.
- Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers.
Performs other related functions as assigned or apparent.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIESMechanical aptitude.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language, and be at least 18 years of age.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience in underground construction and maintenance or a similar type of work.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTMust possess a valid State of Georgia driver’s license. Satisfactory completion of background examination, physical examination, and random drug/alcohol testing. Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
WORK SCHEDULEWorking hours are flexible, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with some weekends as needed.
