Lead Mechanic

This position is responsible for leading and directing the diagnosing and repair of a variety of county vehicles and equipment.

• Performs and supervises corrective maintenance procedures, including hydraulic, electrical, and engine repair.
• Performs and supervises vehicle and equipment maintenance procedures such as tune ups, oil and filter changes, and heating and air-conditioning repairs.
• Maintains and supervises repairs of heavy equipment, including compactors, backhoes, tractors, dump trucks, flatbed trucks, and front-end loaders. Perform and supervise small engine repairs on lawn mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, and tillers.
• Performs or supervises welding and fabricating of parts as needed.
• Performs or supervises a variety of engine diagnostic procedures.
• Responds to service calls in the field.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of engine operation and mechanics for a variety of vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of repair principles and procedures for gasoline- and diesel-powered engines.
• Knowledge of electrical system and air conditioning repair and procedures.
• Skill in supervision
• Skill in diagnosing mechanical problems for a wide variety of vehicles and equipment
• Skill in fabricating and welding parts.
• Skill in performing preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
• Skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools used in repairing vehicles and small engines.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Valid state vehicle license required
• Able to work in a team and produce quality work under tight deadlines
• Initiative and strong analytical skills
• Diligence, prioritization skill, and time management
