Job Summary:
The Maintenance Journeyman performs a variety of general maintenance activities and assists other mechanics with repairs to mobile equipment necessary to keep equipment maintained in good running order so that optimum production can be obtained. This job interfaces daily with the rest of the operations at this location.
- Assists mechanic and skilled personnel
- Perform mechanical work and repairs on mobile equipment
- Procure and move parts, material, equipment, and necessary tools
- Operate hoist(s) during repairs
- Operate other mechanical equipment to load truck
- Operate powered tools to perform mechanical work and repairs
- Operate welding equipment to perform basic welding work
- Use oxy‑acetylene torch equipment to perform light or medium cutting jobs
- Shovel and clean up
- Store and transport used and/or damaged equipment to other areas
- Perform safety walk‑around inspection before shift
- Replace or assist other workers as needed or directed
- Maintain good housekeeping of the equipment
- Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
- Meet or exceed company safety standards
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to carry out simple to complex oral and written instructions and solve problems in standardized situations based on work experience
- Good mathematical skills, including basic math, fractions, and conversions of four‑ to five‑digit numbers and common units of measurement in both metric and decimal systems
- Ability to read and understand English sufficiently to read technical information in manuals and reports, and to operate equipment in reverse using mirrors
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying up to 25 pounds
- Ability to communicate well with supervisors, welders, leadmen, other mechanics, maintenance personnel, co‑workers, and outside contractors
- High level of attentiveness and physical coordination to perform work activities safely and productively
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and work outdoors
- Must wear protective equipment while at the location
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects
- Must be able to talk and hear regularly to communicate with employees/visitors and to function safely around heavy rolling equipment
- Must perform all job functions, including pushing, turning, and/or pulling controls
