No Description The  Fiber Technician is a regular, full-time, hourly, non-exempt position responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of fiber optic cable and related infrastructure used for high-speed data transmission systems. This field-based role supports telecommunications construction, network expansion, service restoration, and maintenance activities in residential, commercial, and carrier environments. The position requires comfort working in outdoor conditions and a variety of environments, including aerial, underground, and indoor settings.

This position works out of either the Statham, Georgia or Austell, Georgia office and reports directly to the Metro E Supervisor.

This position works a schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Regular travel throughout the state of Georgia is required to perform field-based fiber installation, maintenance, testing, and restoration work at various job sites. As a condition of employment, this position may be required to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel, based on operational business needs.

Responsibilities Fiber Installation, Splicing & Testing:

Install, place, and secure fiber optic cable in aerial, underground, and indoor environments in accordance with engineering prints and construction standards.

Perform fiber preparation, fusion splicing, connectorization, and enclosure/terminal installation to support new builds, upgrades, and service restoration.

Test and troubleshoot fiber networks using OTDRs, light sources, power meters, and visual fault locators to verify signal quality and isolate faults.

Read and interpret route maps, splice matrices, work orders, and construction drawings to complete assignments accurately and efficiently.

Repair damaged cable, restore service outages, and document splice loss, test results, and as-built information in company systems.

Field Operations & Equipment:

Operate safely in the field using hand tools, ladders, bucket trucks, and test equipment while supporting construction and maintenance activities.

Assist with cable pulling, routing, lashing, grounding, labeling, and securing materials at poles, pedestals, handholes, cabinets, and customer demarcation points.

Maintain accurate inventory of fiber materials, splice supplies, tools, and assigned equipment to support daily production needs.

Coordinate with supervisors, locators, contractors, and other crews to complete scheduled work, emergency repairs, and restoration activities.

Complete required job documentation, test records, and closeout reports while maintaining organized, clean, and compliant work sites.

Quality, Safety & Compliance:

Follow OSHA requirements, traffic control procedures, utility-locate practices, and all company safety policies while working in public rights-of-way and active construction zones.

Participate in daily safety briefings, job hazard analyses, and pre-trip/pre-use inspections for vehicles, ladders, bucket trucks, and field equipment.

Use required PPE and maintain safe work practices when working at heights, near energized facilities, and in changing outdoor conditions.

Verify work meets Company standards, customer requirements, and applicable codes by completing inspections, testing, and corrective actions as needed.

Identify, report, and address quality or safety issues promptly to minimize risk, rework, and service disruption.

Represent the Company professionally with customers, property owners, municipalities, and team members while in the field.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements Formal Education & Certification:

Completion of a High School Diploma or attainment of a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to meet Company driving requirements.
