We are seeking a Customer Field Service & Construction Technician to join our Air Products Customer Engineering team.
This residence‑based role requires 50-75% travel throughout the southern United States, with the ideal candidate located in Georgia south of the Atlanta area.
Technical RequirementsThe role demands strong technical competency for startup, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of cryogenic and gas product storage systems. Candidates should be able to read technical drawings and have a true focus on safety. Responsibilities include the installation of product storage, processing, and delivery equipment at customer sites, and familiarity with gaseous and cryogenic piping systems, valves, tanks, and equipment primarily in liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide service.
ProjectManagement & Safety
Excellent project skills in scope development, customer interface, and overall project management are required. Key tasks include equipment selection, crane coordination (including lift supervision), transportation scheduling, installation, startup support, contractor/maintenance technician supervision, and customer training. High safety standards are essential both at system or customer sites and while operating company vehicles.
Key Responsibilities- Install product storage, processing, and delivery equipment at customer sites, including cryogenic tanks, pumps, and piping for liquid oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide service.
- Maintain extremely high standards of safety performance at customer sites and while driving company‑provided vehicles.
- Practice safe rigging and lifting procedures.
- Supervise crane contractors and serve as Lift Supervisor for equipment lifts with loads up to 250 tons.
- Demonstrate quality brazing techniques and install and pressure‑test piping.
- Practice safe handling of hand tools and power tools used in installation and maintenance tasks.
- Read engineering drawings, flow sheets, equipment layouts, piping drawings, and electrical control schematics.
- Accurately report costs for materials and labor.
- Understand the properties, behavior, and hazards of the gases handled.
- Apply basic project management skills, including equipment and material selection, contractor supervision, system startup, operational readiness procedures, and proper documentation.
- Show strong internal and external customer interface skills and aptitude.
- Provide ongoing maintenance support as needed.
- Ability to pass a service/pickup truck road test and DOT physical; clean driving record.
- Proficient with hand tools and hand power tools.
- Ability to repair and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to read technical drawings.
- Computer skills required for project and day‑to‑day duties.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Trade, technical degree, or apprenticeship in a related field preferred but not required.
- Military service considered in lieu of a trade or technical degree.
- Pass service/pickup truck road test and DOT physical required.
- Flexibility to travel 75% of the time.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- A class A CDL license preferred but not required.
