OperatorI - Wastewater Treatment Build a Career Protecting Public Health and the Environment
Are you looking for a hands-on career with opportunities to learn, grow, and make a difference in your community? We are seeking a Wastewater Operator I to join our team. In this role, you will help operate and maintain wastewater treatment facilities that protect public health, preserve natural resources, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Whether you are an experienced operator or someone looking to build a career in the water and wastewater industry, we offer training, development opportunities, and support in obtaining required certifications.
What You'll DoAs a Wastewater Operator I, you will:
- Operate and monitor wastewater treatment plant equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, belt presses, disinfection systems, and related machinery
- Conduct routine inspections, testing, sampling, and monitoring of treatment processes
- Perform basic laboratory analyses and record operational data
- Monitor plant performance, including flow rates, chemical usage, dosage levels, and equipment operation
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on treatment equipment
- Troubleshoot operational issues and assist with emergency repairs as needed
- Respond to after-hours callouts and emergency situations
- Maintain accurate operational and maintenance records
- Ensure facilities remain safe, clean, secure, and compliant with regulations
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with customers and stakeholders
- Follow all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to work safely in an industrial environment
- Ability to learn wastewater treatment processes and regulatory requirements
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and internet applications
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate professionally and work effectively as part of a team
- Previous wastewater treatment, water treatment, utility, industrial, maintenance, or mechanical experience
- Wastewater Operator License or certification
- CDL (Commercial Driver's License)
- Completion of water or wastewater treatment coursework
- Experience with pumps, motors, electrical equipment, instrumentation, or process controls
This position supports a 24/7 operation. Candidates must be willing to work:
- Day, evening, or night shifts
- Weekends and holidays
- Overtime as needed
- On-call rotations and emergency response assignments
The successful candidate must be able to:
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50-60 pounds
- Load, unload, and move equipment and tools
- Walk extensively throughout the facility
- Climb stairs, ladders, and elevated platforms
- Work in confined spaces and various weather conditions
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods
