Construction Laborer

Definition: Entry-level laborer with minimal skill and experience level. Able to perform some basic carpentry tasks.

Receives supervision from higher level supervisory staff.

• Any manual labor task as directed by a supervisor or foreman.
• Excavating and shaping of earth.
• Placing concrete and assisting cement finishers.
• Back filling operations with earth, gravel, and sand.
• Operation of pneumatic equipment such as jackhammers, bush hammers, etc.
• Operation of two-cycle and four-cycle equipment such as wacker‑packers, concrete saws, chain saws, pumps, generators, etc.
• Tool pick‑up, transport, and storage.
• Assist other workers as required.
• Perform general demolition of all types of building construction.
• Perform general cleanup at job sites.
• Follow oral instructions.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Principles, procedures and terminology used in the construction trade; tools and materials used in carpentry; methods and procedures used in building construction; materials and equipment used in carpentry trades; occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Determine when to ask for help; take measurements; correctly use and apply some basic carpentry skills; understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities (see Physical Conditions below); maintain effective audio‑visual discrimination and perception for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating assigned equipment and vehicles.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Minimum of six months related experience.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
