Description JOB SUMMARY

This position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the City’s stormwater drainage system. Work includes routine inspection, cleaning, and minor repair of stormwater infrastructure to ensure proper water flow, reduce flooding risk, and protect public infrastructure and environmental quality. Duties are performed under close supervision with on-the-job training provided.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • · Assists with the inspection, cleaning, installation, and maintenance of storm drains, catch basins, culverts, ditches, swales, and retention/detention ponds.
  • · Removes debris, sediment, vegetation, and obstructions from stormwater structures using hand tools and light equipment.
  • · Assists with minor repairs to stormwater infrastructure including pipes, grates, inlets, headwalls, and outfalls.
  • · Assists with erosion control and restoration activities such as grading, sodding, seeding, and installation of erosion control measures.
  • · Assists in masonry work, such as building headwalls, retaining walls, and catch basins. Prepares forms; pours and finishes concrete in the installation of curbs, catch basins, and other stormwater structures.
  • · Operates hand tools, power tools, and light equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • · Responds to service requests and assists with emergency stormwater issues during and after storm events.
  • · Loads, unloads, and transports tools, equipment, and materials to and from work sites.
  • · Performs routine maintenance on assigned tools and equipment and reports repair needs to supervisor.
  • · Assists in traffic control at work sites.
  • · Locates underground utilities.
  • · Follows all safety rules, policies, and procedures including traffic control and confined space awareness.
  • · Responds to after-hours and weather-related emergencies during EOC activation.
  • · Must attend specialized training, including safety training, as required by management.
  • · Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • · Basic knowledge of stormwater systems, drainage principles, or maintenance practices.
  • · Ability to learn proper operation of tools and equipment used in stormwater maintenance.
  • · Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • · Ability to work effectively as a memberof a work crew.
  • · Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • · Knowledge of workplace safety practices.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Stormwater Supervisor or Crew Leader. Assignments are given orally or in writing and are accompanied by specific instructions. Work is reviewed through observation, inspections, and evaluation of completed tasks for adherence to procedures, safety standards, and expected results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include City policies and procedures, safety rules, OSHA requirements, standard operating procedures, equipment manuals, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations. These guidelines are generally clear and applicable, with limited need for interpretation. Deviations from established procedures require supervisory approval.
