Community Support Individual/Paraprofessional

Community Support Individuals/Paraprofessionals create special programs designed for the mentally ill, individuals in need of child care services and other members of the community who require public assistance. They help vulnerable people to improve their quality of life, achieve their goals and make a very real and positive difference to their lives.

CSI/Paraprofessional provide support to consumers – children, adolescents and/or their parents or guardians – in the community. In alignment with a consumer’s treatment plan, the CSI/Paraprofessional skill builds with the consumer and other vested parties to safely maintain children in their home. CSI/Paraprofessional links consumers with additional community resources and provides case management services. Bilingual (fluent in Spanish) is a plus.

CSI/Paraprofessional works with children and adolescents to teach, reinforce, and motivate toward behavioral change. CSI/Paraprofessional works with the child’s parents/guardians in teaching, reinforcing, and structuring consistency to help foster positive behavioral change. CSI/Paraprofessional serves as a liaison between family and other mental health professionals providing services to the family. CSI/Paraprofessional advocates for the child and/or family, which could include writing reports for and attending court proceedings, panel reviews and school meetings.

CSI/Paraprofessional shares responsibility for developing Individual and Family Safety Plans. CSI/Paraprofessional documents all work with consumers, community resources and partners. CSI/Paraprofessional creates and submits clear documentation of all services provided to child and/or family, including progress notes, termination reports and/or updated service goals/plans, to promote supervisory review and feedback. CSI/Paraprofessional documents all work and submits notes within 72–96 hours of consumer visit or cancelled appointment, and requests additional authorization in a timely manner to avoid service disruption.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field and appropriate training, certification and/or credentials.
  • Two or more years of experience working as a Community Support Individual or with in-home case management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Documented experience working with at-risk children, adolescents and families.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to diverse cultures.
  • Flexible work schedule, including the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Laptop, valid Georgia driver’s license, vehicle, and ability and willingness to travel off site.
