Title
Military and Family Life Counselor - School (Grade MFLC Tier
2)
In‑person positions at schools affiliated with Fort Benning. Candidates must be local or be willing to relocate to become local.
Responsibilities- Provide child and youth behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of all ages, including non‑medical counseling, brief counseling, action planning, and referral.
- Conduct training, health and wellness presentations, and participate in health fairs and base activities focused on children and youth.
- Consult with parents, personnel, schools, and installation command regarding behavioral health issues affecting children and youth.
- Maintain daily counselor activity data via smartphone or web application, ensuring accurate reporting and confidentiality.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources for children and youth, providing appropriate linkages.
- Abide by line‑of‑sight protocol and collaborate with points of contact (POC) to deliver services that meet installation needs.
- Coordinate duty‑to‑warn and restricted reporting situations per DoD protocol; maintain regular supervision with the Regional Supervisor/Director.
- Respond to critical incidents, special requests, and urgent situations as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
- Participate in in‑services, training, quality‑improvement committees, pilot programs, and other contract activities as assigned.
- Serve on student‑focused assignments, including Department of Defense (DoDEA) schools, community schools, youth programs, and summer camps.
- Master’s degree in a mental health–related field from an accredited program.
- Valid, unrestricted independent counseling license (LCSW, LMFT, LPC) from a U.S. state, District of Columbia, U.S. territory, or Commonwealth.
- Less than two years of post‑licensure clinical experience.
- Fluency in English and U.S. citizenship.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and diverse families.
- Proficiency with technology and software, including Microsoft Office, internet navigation, smartphone/tablet apps, and video‑conferencing platforms.
- Ability to travel within and across military installations, including traversing uneven or outdoor terrain and working in various weather conditions.
- Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) Clearance, Installation Records Check (IRC), criminal background check, and FBI fingerprint check.
- Must possess a valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license; additional military vehicle operator’s permits may be required for TDY locations.
- Meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology.
- School‑assigned counselors must have prior school‑setting work experience.
