Special Education Bus Monitor
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Special Needs Bus Monitor to support students during daily transportation. The bus monitor assists the driver in ensuring a safe, orderly, and positive environment for students with special needs while riding the bus. Responsibilities include supporting student behavior, ensuring all safety rules and transportation protocols are followed, assisting students as needed during loading and unloading, and helping maintain a calm and respectful bus environment
. The ideal candidate is patient, attentive, and committed to student safety and well‑being.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience working students with special needs.
- Work is performed primarily on a school bus during student transportation routes.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and move within the bus while it is in motion.
- May be required to assist students entering and exiting the bus, including those using mobility equipment such as wheelchairs or walkers.
- Must be able to maintain attentiveness and monitor student behavior throughout the duration of the route.
- Work involves frequent interaction with students with special needs, requiring patience, calm communication, and behavioral support.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions when assisting students during loading and unloading.
- Must be able to follow district transportation policies, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency or unexpected situations.
- May be required to bend, lift, reach, or provide limited physical assistance to students when necessary.
- Work environment may include noise, movement, and frequent stops associated with school transportation.
- Hourly Rate: $12.99 per hour
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 5:30 AM – 8:30 AM during the assigned bus route. - Location:
Route departs from West Jackson Middle School. - Start Date:
As soon as possible. - Calendar:
This position does not follow the traditional school calendar. The employee will continue working during the summer as needed to support this specialized transportation route. - Employment Type:
Part-time transportation support position. - This position is hired based on specific student transportation needs within a specialized environment. Continued employment is dependent upon the ongoing needs of the assigned student(s). If transportation needs change or services are no longer required,
the position may be modified or discontinued accordingly
.
