Equipment Operator III for Public Works

Harris County, Georgia (population 36,000) is accepting applications for a full-time Equipment Operator III to work Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The role involves operating heavy and light equipment for county road repair and other infrastructure maintenance projects.

Responsibilities
:

• Transport equipment and materials to and from job sites
• Establish work safety zones, ensuring traffic control and flagging procedures are followed
• Participate in storm response activities
• Conduct routine equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance and repairs
• Report extensive maintenance needs to supervisor
• Supervise assigned inmate laborers
• Maintain assigned equipment and tools
• Install cross drains and remove hazardous trees from county roads and public areas
• Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and operated safely and efficiently

Qualifications
:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• More than four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
• Valid Georgia driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle or equipment operated
• Ability or willingness to pass drug screening, background check, social media check, employment check, and driving history check

Starting wage is $23.03 per hour, plus benefits that include a five‑year vesting schedule for retirement.
