Salary: Bus Mechanic pay scale based on job performance and industry certifications. $27,342.51 min- $32,109.77 max or $15.19 -$17.45 per hr. Salary of experienced applicant will increase with years experience.

Job Goal: To perform mechanical repair on school buses, trucks and related equipment, ensuring safe operating conditions for all fleet vehicles.

Reports To: Director of Transportation

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • As a minimum, experience or training desired in the areas of hydraulic and air brake systems, automatic and manual transmissions, automotive and truck front and rear axle repair, tire repair, and preventive maintenance on all types of vehicles. Class A mechanic with A.S.E. certification and related experience/training in diesel and gasoline engines, diagnostics, and repairs is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and air brake systems.
  • Working knowledge of automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Working knowledge of automotive and truck front and rear axle repair, tire repair, and preventive maintenance on all types of vehicles.
  • Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions and diagrams.
  • Valid Georgia Commercial Driver's license for test driving busses.
  • Physical demands - must be able to stand and walk the majority of the day, performing heavy manual labor; lift and carry thirty (30) pounds frequently, and up to one hundred (100) pounds infrequently push or pull some amounts frequently. Job also requires frequent bending and stooping.

Job Duties:

  • Inspect, test, evaluate, maintain, and repair all related vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment.
  • Respond to emergency road calls and repair on-site as possible.
  • Evaluate vehicles to locate problem areas.
  • Test drive vehicles after repair.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, such as repair records, inspection reports, and maintenance records.
  • Attend approved training sessions, staff development activities, and required meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Evaluation: Performance is evaluated in accordance with the personnel policy on classified evaluations.

Job Goal: To assure that all vehicles in the transportation fleet are maintained in optimum condition in order that students and employee safety is achieved.

Reports To: Director of Transportation

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent, with extensive experience and knowledge in automotive mechanics and all aspects of shop management.
  • Valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License, Class 8 with Passenger Endorsement, and Air Brakes Endorsement.
  • Demonstrates ability to lead and manage others.
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and sketches.
  • Demonstrates organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Physical demands - must be able to sit the majority of the day: stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl occasionally: must be able to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Attendance and punctuality is crucial.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate and assign work to appropriate personnel.
  • Prepare and maintain records and data on servicing, equipment repair, maintenance, and inventory.
  • Supervise the servicing of bus/automotive equipment, to include inspection, overhaul, repair, and modification of equipment.
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance program for all equipment.
  • Coordinate emergency road service.
