Receiving Assistant Position Key Responsibilities

• Unload incoming steel shipments, verifying quantities and quality against purchase orders and packing slips, inspecting for damage or discrepancies and reporting them accordingly.
• Maintain accurate receiving records, often utilizing computer systems or inventory software, and process bills of lading, purchase orders, and other necessary documentation.
• Organize and maintain inventory in designated storage areas, including cycle counting and updating inventory records to ensure accuracy.
• Operate various material‑handling equipment such as forklifts, cranes, or pallet jacks to move and store steel safely and efficiently.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and suppliers to coordinate shipments and resolve any issues.

• Attention to detail: meticulous accuracy in checking shipments and maintaining records.
• Basic math and computer skills: proficiency in basic math and computer use (including Microsoft Office) essential for data entry and record‑keeping.
• Ability to accurately read and utilize a tape measure; a test will be given at interview.
• Experience with material‑handling equipment: prior experience operating forklifts or similar equipment often required or preferred.
• Organizational skills: strong ability to manage inventory, prioritize tasks, and maintain a clean and efficient workspace.
• Communication skills: effective written (via email system) and verbal communication necessary for interacting with team members, suppliers, and customers.
• Safety mindset: adherence to safety protocols and procedures is paramount due to the nature of working with heavy steel and machinery.
