Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) is a non-profit community-based health and human services organization that serves low-income, disadvantaged and those unable to meet their needs through other sources. The agency was established in 1965 and provides services to over 9,000 individuals, children and families in three main areas:

  • Community Health Services: WIC, Commodity Supplemental Food, Foster Grandparents, Head Start, and Child Development Center.
  • Clinical Health Services:
    Primary Care, Reproductive Health, Diabetes Management, Immunizations, Migrant Health, Ryan White HIV;
    Behavioral Health including Counseling Services, Medication Management, Medication Assisted Treatment and Substance Use Counseling and Intensive Outpatient Services and Dental Services.
  • Supportive Health Services:
    Family Stabilization, a Teen Outreach Program, SOAR, Youth Leadership Program, Youth Shelter and Housing Assistance Programs.

Job Title : WIC Staff Nurse

Reports to : WIC Program Manager

Areas of Responsibility :
Function as the Certified Profession Authority (CPA) role in the provision of health services within the WIC Program.

Major Duties
:

  • Determine WIC eligibility based upon dietary, anthropometric, clinical and health history data.
  • Complete medical history and care plan for prenatal, postpartum, infant, and child WIC certification in accordance with the State of Nebraska and local WIC procedure manuals.
  • Provide nutrition education counseling and breastfeeding support to WIC clients based on identified nutritional risk factors and individual needs
  • Provide referrals to physician’s offices, dental clinics, and programs such as Medicaid, Food Stamps, and ADC.
  • Promote breastfeeding as an integral part of the WIC Programs.
  • Accurately document and maintain records according to the Nebraska State WIC guidelines and CAPWN agency policies and procedures.
  • Act as a family advocate, coordinating with other appropriate available resources in the community.
  • Serve as WIC Outreach Coordinator, promoting awareness of WIC benefits to community, participate in community outreach activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of dietetic principles and nutrition guidelines through review of current professional publications and workshops.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support certification.
  • Participate in the Performance Measurement and Improvement (PMI) activities.
  • Attend staff meetings and training opportunities as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and communications following CAPWN policy and HIPAA privacy and security policies and procedures.
