Overview
Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, is seeking a full-time Anthropology faculty member in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice beginning August 2026. The position is located primarily at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus, with teaching may be required at the Rockville Campus. The candidate should be an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher with professionalism, a strong commitment to students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

Montgomery College faculty strive to meet students’ diverse academic needs by offering a wide array of dynamic and challenging courses in multiple formats and times, to improve access for busy students. Anthropology courses routinely transfer to many prestigious colleges and universities. Faculty are engaged in student support and co-curricular initiatives, including development of OER/z-cost instructional material, embedded advising, and the Social Sciences Expo.
Duties- Teach Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology and other anthropology courses as appropriate (e.g., Human Evolution and Archaeology, Introduction to Archaeology, World Cultures).
- Teach 30 semester hours of courses per academic year related to anthropology.
- Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include day, evening, weekend, online, winter, summer, and/or accelerated sections.
- Serve as the anthropology coordinator for the department.
- Serve on or lead department, discipline, campus, or college-wide committees, including the Anthropology Advisory Committee.
- Engage students in their learning through active collaborative learning approaches.
- Engage in student outreach events to increase visibility of anthropology and improve learning outcomes.
- Incorporate educational enterprise platforms such as Blackboard Ultra into instruction, including zero-cost resources in instruction development and delivery.
- Collaborate with other anthropology faculty to coordinate and award micro-credentials to anthropology students.
- Communicate with anthropology faculty on other campuses to ensure a consistent student learning experience.
- Implement embedded advising and/or embedded classroom support services.
- Advise students about discipline course offerings, honors programs, internships, certificates, transfer opportunities, and careers in anthropology.
- Pursue professional development opportunities related to pedagogy and student success.
- Participate as an active member of the anthropology discipline to stay well-informed in the field.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A Master’s degree in Anthropology (or a related discipline) with graduate coursework reflecting depth and breadth in Anthropology.
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level; experience as a graduate student or teaching assistant will be considered.
- Ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
- Demonstrated experience teaching using various delivery methods, online resources, and technology applications across the curriculum.
- Commitment to student success initiatives (e.g., OER, advising).
- Evidence of innovative curriculum development to serve diverse student populations.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and be sensitive to the educational needs of a culturally diverse population.
