Job Summary
Summary Description of Classification: At the direction of the principal, the para educator promotes student learning and well‑being for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP). The role focuses on facilitating mastery of grade‑level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards, working in general‑education classrooms throughout the school day and providing individualized or small‑group instruction. It also includes instructional and classroom‑management support as well as clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff.
All new para educators are hired at Grade 13 and may promote to Grade 14 after completing a six‑month probationary period and the required training hours.
Special Requirements
- Frequent bending, walking, and lifting objects or equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent overtime or night work may be required; outside duty and flexible scheduling/location changes may be necessary.
- Continues planned instructional activities during a teacher’s temporary absence from the classroom.
Wage range: $23.61 p/h – $41.87 p/h.

- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to read/write/speak English.
- Ability to interact with and support students with special needs.
- Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web‑based instructional tools.
- Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
