Part-Time Librarian II Position
Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, is seeking candidates for a Part-Time Librarian II position. The work schedule is days/20 hours a week, Monday – Thursday, 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 29 position. Occasional schedule adjustments may be requested. The primary responsibilities of this role are to provide professional research assistance and a wide range of information services to library users, who are students, faculty, staff and community patrons. This includes providing formal instruction in the classroom, as well as individual instruction (one-on-one), on information literacy topics. The position also provides leadership coordination for one or more of the Research and Teaching division's strategic projects each year, which may include designing ways to access activities or the use of library resources through reporting and other statistical means.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Perform outreach with faculty and academic departments/units to foster effective relationships for creating dynamic learning strategies in support of the curriculum and specific student needs in a variety of courses and stages of student development.
- Familiarize themselves with the needs, attitudes, and internal operations of the academic departments in which they liaise.
- Work with librarian supervisor and liaison team to establish and maintain relationships and outreach methods while learning about programs and curricula for assigned academic departments and planning for their growth and change accordingly.
- Attend departmental meetings.
- Form relationships and regularly communicate with faculty in their assigned academic department(s).
- Recommend titles (books, media, reference, eBooks) for purchase.
- Work to accommodate requests and needs at each campus and in each academic area, and collaborate on displays and events with access services staff as needed.
- Lead at least one strategic initiative each academic year aligned with the Research & Teaching Division's goals.
- Participate in planning and priority setting for the Research and Teaching Division's annual goals and priorities.
- Commit to professional development opportunities (internal and external), by participating in conferences, seminars, and professional meetings that enhance their knowledge in current professional librarianship practices, and to learn and develop new skills that will improve library services and fulfill unit goals and objectives.
- Stay up to date and watch for job related trends in the library profession by reading professional journals, listservs, blogs, etc., in order to maintain and update skills with the latest hardware and software products, trends and their practical use in an information seeking environment.
- Attend internal workshops and classes to learn new skills, deepen already existing skills, or to learn about overall College goals and objectives.
- Maintain a high level of proficiency with electronic and print resources in a constantly evolving information and technology environment to include web-based social media and networked technologies to enable delivery of real-time reference and distance instructional services.
- Maintain and update skills with the latest hardware and software products, trends, and their practical use in an information seeking environment.
- Maintain proficiency in use of web-based, social media, and networked technologies to deliver real-time reference and distance instructional service.
- Create and maintain online library guides using an extensible web-based platform.
- Maintain high level of interpersonal, intercultural, and intergenerational communication skills required to reach a diverse user population.
