Job Description
Montgomery College, Takoma Park-Silver Spring campus is seeking two (2) outstanding full-time Health Information Management faculty members beginning January 2027. We are seeking enthusiastic professionals with a strong commitment to health science education and the ability to motivate and engage students to succeed.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success, working in a multi-cultural environment, commitment to the community college mission, and have effective oral and written communication skills. Outstanding candidates with a passion for teaching are particularly encouraged to apply to join the dedicated faculty of the Allied Health Sciences Department.
Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or blended formats during days, evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has multiple campuses, and faculty may be assigned to teach in-person at any of these campuses and teach online.
Duties include but are not limited to:- Teach a variety of courses within the Health Information Management program.
- Teach 30 semester hours per academic year (mid-August through May, in accordance with AAUP collective bargaining). Opportunities may exist to teach summer classes.
- Participate in discipline-related activities such as program evaluation, curriculum design, and outcomes assessment and evaluation.
- Follow guidelines from program director to ensure consistent content coverage and student experience across multiple sections of a course.
- Provide support to the program director and clinical coordinator as needed.
- Engage in continuing education for the maintenance of credentials and accreditation requirements.
- Faculty members are expected to serve on departmental, campus, and/or college committees, hold office hours, advise students, participate in course and program assessment, and maintain an active personal program of professional development and continuous learning.
- Faculty may be assigned non-instructional duties in place of course instruction.
- Master’s Degree in Health Information Management, Health Administration or related.
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.
- Two (2) years professional experience in health information management, health informatics or related experience.
- Experience integrating technology into course delivery including use of a Learning Management System and utilizing Zoom for synchronous remote course delivery.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment.
- Demonstrated effective collaboration with colleagues.
- Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
- CCS, CCS-P or CPC certification in medical coding.
- Prior teaching experience in Health Information Management or related
- Evidence of commitment to professional development and scholarly activities.
