Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, analysis, and testing of complex mechanical and electromechanical systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical engineering professional who enjoys owning projects from concept through production and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with mechanical design, CAD modeling, engineering analysis, manufacturing processes, and hardware development within a highly technical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and development efforts from initial concept through production.
- Design and analyze mechanical and electromechanical components and assemblies.
- Develop production-ready designs while considering performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
- Perform engineering analysis, calculations, simulations, and design validation.
- Utilize CAD tools to create and modify mechanical designs, drawings, and documentation.
- Support testing, verification, and validation activities for new designs.
- Collaborate with electrical, manufacturing, RF, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Develop solutions for mechanical integration, thermal management, and hardware packaging challenges.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and apply GD&T principles.
- Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) processes.
- Manage project timelines, technical deliverables, and product development milestones.
- Troubleshoot design challenges and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field.
- 6+ years of experience in mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and/or manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials.
- Experience designing complex hardware systems and mechanical assemblies.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, Solid Works, or similar tools.
- Experience with engineering analysis methods, including FEA and CFD.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing hardware for aerospace, telecommunications, aviation, or other high-reliability industries.
- Experience with electronic board assembly integration, mounting strategies, and thermal management solutions.
- Knowledge of electronics integration at the chip, package, and board levels.
- Experience with environmental and performance testing, including verification and validation processes.
- Familiarity with FAA certification processes, DO-160 standards, or similar regulatory requirements.
- Experience with RF, EMI/EMC considerations in mechanical design.
- Experience supporting high-volume production environments.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, supply chain, and product lifecycle management.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Fully onsite role in Germantown, MD.
- 6-month contract with potential contract-to-hire opportunity.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. (U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents)
