Position
Purpose:
The Lactation Consultant plans, implements, and evaluates continuing educational activities for designated clinical areas. Under the direction of the Director of Women’s and Infant Services, the consultant serves as a resource for the Lactation Program to improve nursing practice and patient care.
- See patients in all areas under Women’s & Infant Services (Antepartum, Labor & Delivery, Maternity Suites, NICU, Pediatrics, and other hospital areas as needed).
- Provide lactation education and support to patients and families.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership and staff to improve lactation practices.
- Assess and support breastfeeding techniques and resolve lactation issues.
- Maintain accurate lactation care documentation.
- Assist with educational and training activities for clinical staff.
- Demonstrate physical ability to lift, push, pull patients and equipment, and bend at waist.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program; required to obtain a BSN/MSN within a specified timeframe.
- Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or Compact State as a Registered Nurse.
- BLS certification (American Heart Association).
- At least 1 year of clinical experience in a relevant clinical area.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Preferred:

Pay Range: $38.92 – $55.68 per hour. Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates.
