Summary

The Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Science has a mission to deliver scientific discoveries and major scientific tools to transform our understanding of nature and advance the energy, economic, and national security of the United States. Office of Science is the nation's largest federal sponsor of basic research in the physical sciences and are a major supporter of research in such key scientific fields as physics, materials science, computing, and chemistry.

Duties
  • As the Director, Computational Science Research and Partnerships Division, you will:
    Oversee and direct an Office responsible for long-term research to develop innovative algorithms, software, methods, and workflows underpinning current and future HPC, AI, quantum hardware, and emerging science applications.
  • Set all internal control standards for effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity and assesses all organizational policy, program, and project viability.
  • Provide scientific advice and support in coordination with ASCR leadership to the Director of the Office of Science and DOE leadership on computational science, applied mathematics, and computer and data science initiatives.
  • Oversee development of new or modified work methods, peer-review systems, and specific supplemental guidelines to provide uniform application in addressing complex computational partnerships, scientific simulations, and heterogeneous computing issues across the Department.
  • Lead and coordinate computational science research, advanced computing partnerships, and interdisciplinary scientific simulations with public and private stakeholders to expand U.S. high-performance computing capabilities and promote innovative solutions to reduce technological barriers.
  • Represent DOE leadership and the Director of ASCR within and outside DOE as a senior agency official in meetings with industry, universities, national laboratories, professional societies, and representatives of domestic and foreign governments concerning applied mathematics, computer and data science, and network facility research programs that impact the programs overseen and negotiates arrangements pertaining to program logistics, pace, and funding.
