Tetra Tech is adding a Mid-Level Environmental Scientist or Geologist to our field team based in Germantown, Md, with field work locations primarily in Frederick, Carroll and Baltimore counties. This position requires the employee to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

YourRole
This position will provide mid-level geologist or scientist to support various environmental assessment/remediation projects. Work includes due diligence work, report preparation, and various environmental field work. Field work and travel is estimated to be 75%. Capable of assuming responsibility for routine to complex tasks/projects. Experience in leading field crews is desirable.
- Assume lead and supporting technical role for projects.
- Record field data, write reports, generate figures and tables, manage data.
- Perform Phase I and II ESAs.
- Conduct environmental due diligence and perform Investigations at CERCLA, RCRA, and other impacted sites.
- Collect soil and water samples using various sampling techniques (soil, sediment, groundwater surface water, waste)
- Plan and coordinate directly with subcontractors and field personnel.
- Assume supporting roles in proposals and marketing.
- Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
- Other duties as be assigned.
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in geology or environmental science is required, Master's degree (MS/MA) a plus, but not required.
- 3-5 years directly related professional experience and/or training in environmental assessment/remediation related work preferred
- Stormwater pollution prevention compliance experience, a plus
- Erosion and Sediment Control compliance inspection experience, a plus
- Willingness and ability to perform field work at various locations, approximately 75%.
- 40-hour Haz Woper Certification preferred. Ability to obtain certification within 90-days, required.

The physical demands of field activities include:
- Sampling work may include lifting, maneuvering, positioning, and operating sampling/testing equipment (pumps, hoses, power cables, hand augers, sampling tools, etc.).
- Operation of field equipment and movement over rough terrain.
- Traversing and remaining motionless for long periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs

Project work will entail a mix of office work and field work. Office work will be in a typical office environment with controlled conditions. Field work will entail work in a wide range of outdoor conditions, including work in adverse weather conditions, such as high heat, extreme cold, and precipitation and on unimproved job sites where dense vegetation, uneven ground, and physical obstacles may be present.
Project worksites will typically be within the eastern United States but may include travel to/work at sites across the United States and internationally. Field project durations may range from one day to several weeks.
